The Trip

8:35 p.m. & 2004-06-12

Wow... I haven't updated in ages, simply because I've been busy, and gone for a week. First of all, let me clear something up. He doesn't think I'm a psycho. I was -so- happy about that. Much more about that later. I want to write everything about my trip to Washington D.C./New Yok. I don't ever want to forget any of it, and some of it I don't want to write down on paper, out of fear that someone will read it. It's something I probably won't forget anytime soon... I leave in 4 days for Colorado. So, I don't have long to relax. Now, on to the serious stuff. I'm going to go by and do this day by day, place by place, event by event.

6/7/04

I had to get up at 4am. Yeah, that's right. 4 in the morning. Not fun. We met at 5am, and left at 5:30am for the airport. I slept almost all the way there, so the bus ride really wasn't all that bad. We got to the airport, got out baggage checked in, and boarded the plane. I sat by Carly Becker. Fun. heh, not. I slept for most of the plane ride, anyway. As soon as we got to D.C, we got our luggage, and got onto the bus. Big, red Dattco buses. Charter buses with T.V.'s. Not bad riding. Our tour guide's name was Al; he told us about what we would be doing that day. The first stop was Ford's Theatre, the place where Abraham Lincoln was assassainated. I expected it to be... different somehow, laid out differently. But the box was exactly as I imagined it. We then went to the museum, and I ended up talking to Nick and Lacey the whole time. After that, we walked to the Smithsonian. -giggles- Lots of stories from there. Nick, Lacey and I walked around together. It consisted pretty much of wandering around aimlessly for a little under 3 hours. We decided to look around the museum of Natural History, but we almost got lost trying to find it. The map showed it to have a -dome- on top, and the tour guide said it had a green roof. Neither feature was very visible. But, Nick was right about where it was, and we found it with relative ease after our initial.. confusion. We ended up watching this fascinating(not) film about Afria. Dude! There was this lady there with a shirt on that... wasn't really a shirt. It hardly covered anything. And, she was fat! Not a pretty sight. That was when I first started bugging Nick about telling me who gave him the hickey. AND I FOUND OUT! Kind of. I still don't have a name, but I found out how it happened. He kept promising me that he would tell me, "later." I was really getting mad. Anyway, after walking around the Smithsonian, we went outside to where we were supposed to meet. This Vegan guy gave us a sticker, and free C.Ds. We saw the castle part of the Smithsonian, which was really pretty in itself. We didn't get to go in, though. I scratched my beautiful fossil watch on a stone column. -sniffles- Then, we boarded the bus, and left for our next destination. We had dinner at the Sizzling Express. Pretty good, but it didn't even come close to Texas food. After all, everything's better in Texas. =D Of course, though, not many of the people up North seem to realize it. At dinner, Nick came to sit with me. -grin- From there, we walked to the Vietnam Wall. That was a cool experience. I got a rubbing of my uncle Fred's name. I can see where Mya Ying Lin's design looks like her description of it. She wanted it to be a plain, but fitting tribute to the dead, a dark stone wall that separated the world of the living from that of the dead. A kind of... barrier between reality and memory, between actuality and the unknown. Really cool. Then, we walked to the Lincoln Memorial. That was neat. There's one word misspelled in Lincoln's Second Inaugaral Address; future. They spelled with an "e" instead of an "f". From there, we went to the Korean War Memorial, which was pretty cool itself. Then, we went to the Jefferson Memorial. We saw the helicopter that was carrying Reagan's body there. The memorial was amazing; the termperatue in it was cool, almost chilly. That's what I remember the most. Nick, Lacey, and I sat on the steps together, looking at the amazing view of the White House and the Washington Monument. Then, we went back to the hotel. I got a chance there to talk to Nick, and asked him what he considered us. We didn't really get a chance to finish the conversation that night, due to our curfew. But, that's another story...

I'm going to write about Tuesday in my next entry. I've decided this will go smoother if I dedicate each entry to a different day, instead of trying to fit them all into one massive entry. So, another entry very soon.
